An acclaimed Emmy Award-Winning journalist, Trina Robinson joined NBC 6 in 1999 after stints in Philadelphia, Tampa, Orlando, Fort Myers, South Carolina and Virgina, becoming one of South Florida’s most visible and versatile journalists. “TV is an industry where people place you on a pedestal,” she says. “I want my viewers to know that we are very much the same and they can trust and depend on me when it matters most.”

She is the first African-American to hold a TV weather position in South Florida, and has earned 3 Emmy Awards for her hurricane specials, and other reporting.

A Washington, D.C., native, her commitment to news parallels her dedication to giving people information that can improve and even change their lives. “The boldest risk I’ve ever taken was leaving my hometown to pursue my career in television news,” she says. “I’d been a kid raised by a single mom who had never been away from home because we were so poor. It was a giant leap that no one else in my family had ever made.”

When she’s not in our living rooms anchoring the evening news, she supports Women of Tomorrow, helping at-risk girls get through middle school and high school via mentoring and providing college scholarships; Do The Right Thing, fostering a nurturing relationship between police officers and young people; and The American Heart Association, where she serves as the Co-Mistress of Ceremonies for the organization’s mission to prevent strokes and heart attacks.

Through it all, she affirms that it’s her faith that keeps her thriving. “My biggest habit, my ritual, is prayer,” she says. “It centers me, it empowers me and it reminds me that I don’t walk alone, regardless of how challenging the circumstances may appear.”; NBCMiami.com.
